Anne Babson is a librettist and an internationally published prize-winning writer. Her libretto for Su Lian Tan’s opera Lotus Lives was debuted in 2012 at Middlebury College in the context of a performance by chamber orchestra Meridian Arts Ensemble. She wrote lyrics, also, for gospel hip-hop producer Orville Lewinson, a.k.a. New Lewi, for a compilation CD which debuted in 2007 entitled The Cornerstone (New Lew Music, 2007).
Her poetry has been published on five continents in over a hundred literary journals worldwide. Her work has been anthologized multiple times in the United States and in England. She has published four chapbooks, the latest of which, Poems Under Surveillance (Finishing Line Press, 2013) addresses issues related to privacy in the era of Edward Snowden’s revelations. Her forthcoming full-length collection, The White Trash Pantheon, sets the ancient Greek myths in the deep American South as a commentary on contemporary American problems.
Anne’s work has been nominated four times for the Pushcart. She has won awards from Columbia, Atlanta Review, Grasslands Review, Smith and other reviews, as well as residency grants from Yaddo and Vermont Studio Center. She read her work on both local and national radio programs and appeared on television in the United States and Taiwan. She holds degrees from Sarah Lawrence College, The City College of New York, and she is completing a doctorate in English at the University of Mississippi. Her scholarly work, like her creative work, has been anthologized in both the United States and in England.
